I always said, "I knew from the first time that I saw my boat I was in love. It is an old saying that you know the moment you see the one you are supposed to spend the rest of your life with, me it happened with a boat first... Then again with my wife." The Olad is a looker. Every Year I get at least a hundred photos of the old girl. Cruisers passing by, passengers, or friends out in the bay they snap a shot and I add them to my archive...
This year it hit me what a looker she is when Soundings Magazine and Alison Langley asked me if the could feature a picture of the Olad in an upcoming production of theirs.
I have always loved Soundings Magazine... It is of course a magazine that prides itself on being "a real boat magazine, for real boaters". I consider myself the latter, of course. But when I found out that one of my real boater friends took a picture of the Schooner Olad, and that his photo won a first place award in z Soundings Magazine Photo Contest, I got really excited. Take a look yourself. Sounding Magazine
I was also pleasantly surprised at the same time to find myself in Alison Langley's 2010 Calendar. I have been admiring her work for a decade... She is a true classic sailboat photographer. She sails the boat, takes the pictures, she participates in the classic races and generally make you feel like you are there, in her photos. I am officially honored.
So as I day dream toward the sailing season, I have some pictures in my hand to remind me why I love to do what I do....
