Golden Summer Days!

Submitted by aaron207 on Fri, 2010-07-02 11:37.

The weather right now is truly spectacular—-blue skies, crisp breezes to fill our sails, and warm today, but turning hot over the next couple of days. We couldn’t have custom designed a more perfect holiday weekend! Right now the wind is blowing in the right direction to take us down to see Indian Island Lighthouse in Rockport, which means we get to see two lighthouses on a trip.

We’ve also been seeing tons of porpoises, which is always a treat. They follow the boat, slipping in and out of the water in their peculiar water mammal dance. Last night we were even lucky enough to catch sight of some North Atlantic Yellow-Sided dolphins! Sometimes people ask if I ever get tired of sailing these same waters all day every day, and I just chuckle. How could I get bored, when every trip is full of surprises? The only consistency is that the scenery is always beautiful and the sailing is always a pleasure.

This is the third summer we’ve had our little shop on the public landing, and we are really getting into the groove. We’ve just expanded our t-shirt selection to include lots of great “Maine” shirts and even some ladies’ sizes. We have lovely, hand-crafted Maine- and Schooner-themed bags, jewelry, home décor, and even—are you ready?—chocolate! Come check us out.

Coming right up on July 21 is our Half-Day Sail and Lobster Bake, the first of two this summer. If you are coming to visit, this will be the highlight of your vacation, and if you live here, this could be the splurge of the summer—a little “tourist in your own backyard,” if you will. We sail out through the archipelago of Ilesboro, landing at Warren Island State Park, where you will have some time to hike around the island, or relax under the shade of a tree while we prepare a traditional Maine Lobster Bake for you. After a delicious meal, we sail back into Camden Harbor as the sun is setting. Truly wonderful.
