Weddings out to sea on a beautiful sail boat in Maine

I got married on the Schooner Olad in June of 2012.  My good friend Aaron Lincoln, the Captain and owner of the Schooner Olad, was nice enough to get his notary for my husband and I so he could officiate the wedding
himself.  What a beautiful day it was.   I was happy that the boat was only able to hold 22 passengers.  I didn’t want a crazy, elaborate wedding with 150 guests and a big wedding party.   I did wear a gorgeous dress; just because you’re getting married on a boat doesn’t mean you can’t dress to the nines.   It was an intimate affair with our immediate family and close friends.  It was perfect.  We boarded the Olad in the afternoon at 2:30pm.  The overcast skies of the morning were beginning to break up and it looked like the sun was going to come out just for us.  We motored out of the harbor and stopped just past Curtis Island Lighthouse which made a great back drop for the ceremony.  I know that typically your wedding day is supposed to be one of the happiest days of your life, and this day did not disappoint.  I will never forget being out on Penobscot Bay on a beautiful wooden schooner and saying “I Do” to the one that I love most and having the Captain and great friend do the ceremony for us.  The sun was even happy to make an appearance.  After the ceremony we broke out the goodies and champagne that we brought on board for everyone to share.  The crew let my new husband and I raise the sails to take our first sail together as husband and wife.  We had plenty of time to take a wonderful sail around the bay with our family and friends.  After returning to the harbor we went with the photographer to take pictures at one of the many parks nearby, and then went to one of the local restaurants to have dinner on their outdoor patio.  It was an idyllic Maine summer day.

Now that I work for  Aaron Lincoln and the Schooner Olad, I get to assist other couples in making their wedding memories aboard the Schooner Olad as well as the Cutter Owl.  It is an experience that you and your guests will always remember.  Along with weddings we also have many groups that charter the boats out for bachelorette and bachelor parties as well as a sailing tour for their guests who come into town for a larger affair at one of the local resorts.  Either way, it’s always fun to help coordinate the event.  I love assisting in finding a great caterer or a florist to help make the boat especially festive.  We even have a notary available since our very own captain got his back in 2012.  It is our pleasure to help make your special day aboard the Olad or Owl flawless.  Please feel free to call 207-236-2323 or email [email protected] if you are thinking about taking a special sail with us.
