Full day sail aboard the Schooner Olad!

As we turn the calendar to September, and anticipate cooler nights and fall foliage, we are still enjoying beautiful days sailing in Penobscot Bay.  Fall is a wonderful time of the year to sail and we are looking forward to many days of sailing yet to come until the end of our season.

    On September17, 2014 the Schooner Olad will celebrate Maine Lighthouse Week by taking a full day sail to the Rockland Breakwater Lighthouse.  The Olad will leave Camden Harbor at 10am and make it’s way to Rockland.  Watch for the Windjammer Fleet enjoying the breeze, lobster boats at work, and sea life out in Penobscot Bay.  We will tie up to the lighthouse dock and have a guided tour of the Rockland Breakwater Lighthouse.  After the tour we will board the schooner and take a sail back towards Camden to return at 5pm.  On the way back, feel free to take some time at the helm or just enjoy the nature and wildlife as the boat sails on.

The 2014 Windjammer Festival is almost here!

If you have never been in town for the annual Windjammer Festival I strongly recommend checking it out this year as it is a very exciting and enjoyable weekend long festival. Windjammers from up and down the coast of Maine sail into Camden harbor to celebrate the area’s maritime history and culture. There are many exciting events throughout the weekend such as fireworks, lobster crate races, build a boat contests, and more. In addition to these exciting events you will have the opportunity to see the gorgeous Windjammers, many of which only come to the harbor once a year for this event.

The Schooner Olad is offering several special sails throughout Windjammer Weekend that you do not want to miss! Join us on one of our Windjammer Festival Sail-in trips on Friday, August 29th from 12-2PM or from 2:30-4:30PM where we will sail among the entire Windjammer fleet as they enter Camden harbor for the weekend. On Friday we will also be offering a Fireworks Sail from 7-9:15PM where you can join us for a trip to watch the breathtaking sunset followed by the fantastic fireworks display over the beautiful Camden harbor. Finally, on Sunday, August 31st from 2:30-4:30PM the Schooner Olad will be participating in the Parade of Sail with the entire Windjammer Fleet as the ships sail around Camden harbor and out into Penobscot Bay. Seabirds, Sailing, and Lobster Bakes

   Schooner Olad will be welcoming aboard the Friends of Maine’s Seabird Islands this Friday the 18th on our 9:45am sail! FMSI will be joining us aboard the Olad to teach us about the local seabirds that frequent the area as well as nest here. Please join us for this two hour sail as we scout out Penobscot Bay for seabirds and other wild life. This is sure to be a great educational event for all ages.

Also coming up in our line up of special sails this summer, the Olad will be hosting two public lobster bakes. We leave from Camden Harbor for a 1/2 day sail out to Warren Island State Park and while you explore the island, the crew cooks a wonderful lobster bake for you with all the fixings. Unfortunately, space is very limited. Luckily, we also host private lobster bakes on both the Olad and the sailing vessel Owl. You can charter either sailing vessel for a 1/2 day sail and have a delicious lobster bake on Warren Island, Maine’s beautifully secluded State Park in Penobscot Bay. The Owl seats six, making it the perfect daysailer for smaller families and groups who want a memorable Maine experience. And for your larger groups up to 22 people, the Olad is perfect. Sailing, lobsters, beautiful island…it’s the perfect day on the Maine coast.

Half Day Sail and Lobster Bake aboard the Schooner Olad
